Schroeder Hits 2 home runs in Charlies Win
|
The Charleston Charlies beat the Toledo Mud Hens, 12-8, at Ned Skeldon Stadium. The win was largely due to the efforts of second baseman Bill Schroeder, who captured player of the game honors. He went 2-5 with 2 home runs. He drove in 6 runs and scored twice. Kip Young was the winner. Over 5.1 innings, he allowed 7 runs on 10 hits, with 1 walk and 4 strikeouts. With the victory, the Charlies record now stands at 53-78.
Schroeder contributed a big hit, a 3-run home run, for Charleston in the top of the fifth. With his team trailing 5-4, Schroeder took a fastball from Mark Gardner and stroked the home run to right. His 12th home run of the season allowed the Charlies to leap in front, 7-5.
Schroeder told a Charleston News reporter that he was "satisfied" with the win.
