Big Day by King Ignites Pirates Win
|
Pittsburgh and Orlando duked it out at Three Rivers Stadium and the Pirates came out victorious.
With third baseman Jeff King leading the charge, the Pittsburgh Pirates defeated the Orlando Sun Rays, 7-4, at Three Rivers Stadium. King was 3 for 4 with a home run and 2 doubles, while scoring 3 times and driving in 2. Bryan Harvey was credited with the save. He has now successfully converted 16 of 19 save opportunities.
King's key contribution came in the bottom of the eighth when he sent a 1-0 sinker into left for a run-scoring double. It put the Pirates ahead, 5-4.
King said his wife shared good advice with him before the game. "She said, 'Don't allow this game to make you mad.' When I thought about it, I realized this is just a game. I was able to relax at the plate."
The Pirates raised their record to 36-50.
