Padres Subdue Seattle, 5-3
|
San Diego Padres starter Hector Wagner was definitely locked-in. He led his team to a win over the Seattle Pilots, 5-3. The winning pitcher was Wagner, now 5-10. He tossed 7 innings of 4-hit ball, while walking 4 and fanning 2. Jeff Innis notched his 14th save in 16 chances.
San Diego center fielder Brady Anderson said he wanted to hit the ball hard when he batted in the bottom of the seventh. He not only hit it hard, he hit a fastball from Alex Fernandez deep for a grand slam home run. It resulted in a 5-2 lead for San Diego.
"It takes a lot of things to win a ballgame," said San Diego manager Chris Levin. "It's usually not just one thing."
Their 35-50 record puts the Padres last in the United League West Division.
