Sun Rays Top Yankees in Extras
|
New York got a terrific performance from designated hitter Paul Sorrento, but it wasn't enough to beat the Orlando Sun Rays. Orlando won the Yankee Stadium contest, 6-4. Sorrento was the player of the game despite being on the losing side. He went 3 for 5 with a double and 2 singles, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. Orlando reliever Rudy Seanez picked up the win, upping his record to 4-1. Lee Guetterman took the loss. The Sun Rays improved to 54-36.
The game was at a stalemate until shortstop Mike Bordick came to bat in the top of the 11th. Facing New York pitcher Lee Guetterman, he hit a 0-2 fastball for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Orlando on top, 5-4.
"We didn't go down without a fight," said New York manager Patrick McQuail.
