Athletics Use Late-Game Magic to Beat Giants
|
The Oakland Athletics topped the San Francisco Giants, 4-2, in United League action at Candlestick Park. The player of the game was Oakland pitcher and Winter Park, Florida native Derek Lilliquist. Lilliquist picked up the win for Oakland, going 7.1 innings. He gave up 2 runs on 5 hits. He now sports a record of 6-7. Bill Caudill earned his 24th save in 28 chances.
The Athletics got a big at-bat from right fielder Jose Canseco, who in the top of the eighth hit a 2-run home run. It was his 20th home run of the season and put the Athletics on top, 3-2.
"I found a nice groove out there," said Lilliquist.
Oakland now sits at 47-43, while San Francisco falls to 46-45.
