Fletcher Leads Charge, Milwaukee Blasts Padres
The Milwaukee Brewers put together a convincing win at Milwaukee County Stadium, defeating the San Diego Padres, 13-3. Darrin Fletcher was one of the hitting stars. He went 4-4 with a home run, a double, 2 singles, and a walk, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 5 for Milwaukee. Curt Schilling, the winner, improved to 7-7. He held San Diego to 3 earned runs on 3 hits over 9 innings, while racking up 13 strikeouts. The Brewers saw their win-loss record go to 47-44. At the same time, the Padres fell to 36-53.

A crucial at-bat came with the bases loaded and one out in the bottom of the second inning. That's when center fielder Cecil Espy, who finished 3rd in the UL in stolen bases with 69 in 1988, hit a run-scoring single. The Brewers went on to win.

"We did more than enough to get the win," said Espy.
