Reds Sneak Past Yankees, 3-2
|
The Reds had to overcome a fine performance from New York pitcher Tom Candiotti to grab a 3-2 win at Yankee Stadium. Candiotti allowed 1 earned run over 8 innings. Mike Mussina earned the win to go to 13-6. He allowed 2 earned runs on 6 hits, with 3 walks and 6 strikeouts. The Reds go to 47-46, putting them third in the Federal League East Division.
In the top of the ninth, Cincinnati left fielder Mark Carreon had a run-producing at-bat. Facing New York hurler Calvin Schiraldi, Carreon reached on an error by the P, driving in 1 run. That made the score 3-2, Cincinnati. For the day, Carreon drew 1 walk in 4 trips to the plate.
"We put some tough at-bats on some tough pitches," said Cincinnati manager Eric Deutsch.
