Stairs Helps Reds Run Win Streak to 3
|
The Cincinnati Reds stopped the Chicago Cubs, 7-2, behind an impressive performance from Matt Stairs. The top prospect made life miserable for Chicago pitching. He was 2 for 3 with a home run and 2 walks, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 3. Jose Rijo, the winner, improved to 12-4. He held the Cubs to 2 earned runs on 4 hits over 7.2 innings, while striking out 7 and walking 5. Cincinnati has now won 3 in a row.
With two out in the top of the fourth, Mark Carreon barreled up a circle change from Eric King. The result was a 2-run home run, putting the Reds in front, 4-1.
Stairs attributed the win to "energy and focus on the part of everyone."
