The Texas Rangers picked up a win at Arlington Stadium, knocking off the New York Yankees, 5-4. On the mound for Texas was right-hander Pete J. Smith, who played a pivotal role in the win. Even with the win, the Rangers have a dismal 28-71 record.

In the bottom of the fifth, Texas right fielder Phil Plantier had a productive at-bat. With a runner on 2nd and two out, Plantier stroked a run-scoring double to left. It made the score 5-0, Texas. For the game, he was 1 for 3 with a double and was hit by a pitch.

"If I go out there and help the team win, that's all you can do," said Smith.
