Twins Fall Short, 8-7, at Orlando
|
The Orlando Sun Rays knocked off the Minnesota Twins, 8-7, at Orlando Citrus Bowl. Ivan Rodriguez, who captured player of the game honors, was a big reason Orlando won. The catcher was 2-3 with a home run and a walk, while scoring 3 times and driving in 2. Bruce Hurst picked up the win, improving his season record to 8-7. He struck out 8 in 7 innings. Rod Beck notched his 25th save in 27 chances.
The Sun Rays got a lift from second baseman Jose Hernandez, who in the bottom of the sixth stroked a 1-1 curveball into right for a 2-run home run. It was his 12th home run of the season and put the Sun Rays ahead, 4-3.
"Baseball is about momentum," said Hernandez, "and we feel we've got it in our favor after that win."
The Sun Rays improved to 58-44.
