Royals Need Extras to Top Pirates
|
The Kansas City Royals and Pittsburgh Pirates obliged those fans who came to Royals Stadium looking for a good time.
The Kansas City Royals picked up a win at Royals Stadium, knocking off the Pittsburgh Pirates, 5-4. Starting pitcher Denny Neagle, who captured player of the game honors, was a big reason why. Kansas City reliever Mike Schooler was the winner. His record is now 1-0. The losing pitcher was Mike Cook.
Jim Thome produced a go-ahead home run for Kansas City in the bottom of the 11th. With two out and the bases empty, Thome hit a solo home run off Mike Cook. It put the Royals in front, 5-4.
"I liked his command," said Kansas City manager Daniel Drucker. "Denny was throwing strikes."
Kansas City leads the Federal League Central Division by 8½ games.
