Senators Get Past Oakland for 4-3 Win
|
The Washington Senators picked up a win at RFK Stadium, knocking off the Oakland Athletics, 4-3. On the mound for Washington was right-hander Jose DeLeon, who played a pivotal role in the win. The win puts the Senators at 43-59, while the Athletics drop to 53-50.
In the bottom of the ninth, Washington first baseman Al L. Martin had a run-producing at-bat. Facing Oakland hurler Brian Holton, Martin hit a sacrifice fly. That made the score 4-3, Washington. For the day, Martin went 1-3 with a walk.
Martin said his wife shared good advice with him before the game. "She said, 'Don't allow this game to make you mad.' When I thought about it, I realized this is just a game. I was able to relax at the plate."
