The Red Sox had to overcome a good performance from Chicago pitcher Ken Hill to claim a 7-5 win at Fenway Park. Hill went 7 innings and allowed 1 earned run. Tom Henke got the save, his 21st in 25 chances. The first-place Red Sox now have a 5-game winning streak.

Matt Williams's at-bat in the bottom of the eighth was significant for the Red Sox. Coming to the plate with runners on 1st and 3rd and Boston trailing 5-4, the third baseman hit a run-scoring single.
