Padres Sneak Past Mets, 3-2
|
The San Diego Padres did just enough to sneak past the New York Mets, 3-2, at Jack Murphy Stadium. San Diego pitcher Rod Nichols earned player of the game honors. San Diego reliever Jeff Innis picked up the win, upping his record to 3-4. Wayne Edwards took the loss. San Diego now sits at 43-61, while New York falls to 56-49.
In the bottom of the eighth, San Diego second baseman Bill Doran had a productive at-bat. With runners on 1st and 2nd and one out, Doran stroked a run-scoring single to right-center. It made the score 3-2, San Diego. For the game, he was 1-4.
"The effort we put into this one paid off," Doran said.
