Big Game from Walker Not Enough, Twins Lose
The Minnesota Twins and Atlanta Braves cranked it up at Metrodome.

Larry Walker did all he could to help his team win. In the end, though, it wasn't enough to keep the Minnesota Twins from losing, 10-7, to the Atlanta Braves at Metrodome. Walker was 4-4 with a home run, a double, and 2 singles. He scored 3 runs and drove in 4. Ron Robinson got the win, improving to 9-7. He pitched 6.2 innings, giving up 12 hits and 7 runs, while striking out 5 and walking 1. Mark Wohlers got the save, his 17th in 20 chances.

With runs few and far between, the Braves had to seize their opportunities when they came. One of the most important chances for Atlanta came in the top of the fourth inning, when first baseman Howard Johnson delivered a 2-run home run. The home run was hit off Darryl Kile and made the score 5-2, Braves. Johnson went 2 for 5 with a home run. He drove in 2 runs and scored once.

"We got the victory," said Johnson. "That's all that matters at the end of the day."

Atlanta, at 51-55, sits in 4th place in the Federal League East Division.
