Yankees Deal Pirates Painful Loss
|
New York and Pittsburgh duked it out at Yankee Stadium and the Yankees came out victorious.
The Yankees grabbed a win, 5-4, at Yankee Stadium, overcoming a fine effort from Pittsburgh pitcher Terry Mulholland. Mulholland went 5 innings and allowed no earned runs. New York bumps their record to 44-64 with the win.
In the bottom of the ninth, with two out and the game tied, 4-4, center fielder Jeff Kunkel won it for New York. With a runner on 3rd, Kunkel hit a first pitch fastball from Mike Cook for a run-scoring single, giving his team a 5-4 win.
"Winning the game is always the first objective," Kunkel said.
