Close Win Moves White Sox to 57-54
|
The Chicago White Sox got a rather unremarkable outing from starting pitcher Bill Gullickson, but it was good enough for the club to take a 3-2 decision over the Chicago Cubs. Xavier Hernandez was credited with the save. He has now successfully converted 17 of 28 save opportunities. The White Sox bumped their record to 57-54 with this latest triumph.
Chicago center fielder Oddibe McDowell contributed a timely at-bat in the top of the second. With two down, he hit a sinker into center field for a 2-run double. It was his 20th double of the season and put the White Sox ahead, 2-0.
"Both teams played hard," said Chicago manager Dustin Hafler.
