Boston and Cincinnati got after it at Riverfront Stadium.
Erik Hanson pitched a gem to lead Boston to a 6-1 victory over the Cincinnati Reds. Hanson, the winner, moves to 13-5. He threw 7.1 innings of 4-hit ball, while fanning 6 and giving up 6 walks.
With one out in the top of the seventh, Terry Steinbach had a game-changing hit. The Red Sox catcher slammed a 2-run double off Mark Clear, making the score 3-1, Boston.
"I really like what we did out there today," Hanson said after the game.
Boston improves to 68-44 with the win. They lead their division by 5½ games.
