Castilla Slugs Pilots to 15-5 Win

The Seattle Pilots stopped the New York Mets, 15-5, behind an impressive performance from Vinny Castilla. The slugging third baseman made life miserable for New York pitching. He hit 3 home runs. He drove in 7 runs and scored three times. Wally Whitehurst got credit for the win, improving to 13-9. He allowed 4 runs on 8 hits in 8.2 innings. The 4th-place Mets have dropped 5 straight games.

Ken Griffey Jr. put Seattle in front, 4-0, when he hit a 3-run home run off Frank Castillo in the bottom of the third. It was his 29th home run of the season.
