Royals Trip Cubs, 3-2
|
In a low-scoring clash between Kansas City and Chicago, pitcher Kevin Brown was a difference-maker. The right-hander earned player of the game honors for Kansas City in the 3-2 win. In 8 innings, Brown surrendered 8 hits, while striking out 10 and walking 0. He allowed 2 runs. John Habyan got the save, his 26th in 29 chances.
One important at-bat came with runners on 2nd and 3rd in the top of the sixth inning. Facing Chicago hurler Eric King, Barry Larkin, who finished 2nd in the FL in triples with 11 in 1989, drew a walk. The Royals went on to win.
"We squandered some opportunities," said Chicago manager Anthony Perez.
Kansas City goes to 79-41. The win puts them 7½ games up in their division.
