Cubs Lose to Royals, 5-2
|
The Kansas City Royals got a good effort from starter Kevin Tapani in defeating the Chicago Cubs at Wrigley Field. The final score was 5-2. The winning pitcher was Tapani, now 14-8. He tossed 7 innings of 5-hit ball, while walking 1 and fanning 4. Kansas City goes to 80-42. The win puts them 7 games up in their division.
Kansas City used the timely hitting of Roberto Alomar to capture the win. The second baseman socked a 3-run home run in the top of the sixth inning to put the Royals ahead, 4-1. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a big one.
Alomar told a Kansas City Daily News reporter that he was "more than satisfied" with the win.
