Victory Over Rangers Takes St. Louis to 74-49
|
The game between St. Louis and Texas is in the books, despite a little rain.
The St. Louis Cardinals picked up a win at Busch Stadium, knocking off the Texas Rangers, 3-1. Starting pitcher Joe Johnson played a key role in the triumph. St. Louis is second in the Federal League Central Division with a record of 74-49.
The Cardinals had to work out of trouble in the top of the eighth. The score was 3-1, St. Louis, with one out. Texas, with a runner on 1st, was mounting a threat. Don Slaught dug in at the plate, but on a 2-0 sinker, he hit into a double play.
