Blue Jays Lose to Mets, 4-2
The New York Mets racked up a win at Shea Stadium, bumping off the Toronto Blue Jays, 4-2. Paul Abbott, who started for New York, pitched effectively for his team. Abbott, now 8-5, was the winner. In 8.1 innings, he gave up 6 hits, while striking out 3, walking 2, and allowing 2 earned runs. The Mets have now won 4 straight.

An important at-bat for the Mets came in the bottom of the sixth, when third baseman Dave Magadan stroked a run-scoring single. That made the score 3-1 in favor of New York. For the day, Magadan went 1-3 with a walk.

Toronto manager Jose Mata said he was "mildly disappointed" with the loss. "We had our opportunities, but we didn't take advantage of them," he said.
