Multi-HR Game for Davis in 10-4 Win
|
The New York Yankees and Cincinnati Reds cranked it up at Yankee Stadium.
The Cincinnati Reds relied on the hitting of center fielder Eric Davis to stop the New York Yankees, 10-4. For the game, Davis went 4-5 with 2 home runs and a double. He scored 3 times and drove in 3. Scott Bankhead, the winner, improved to 8-9. He held New York to 4 earned runs on 6 hits over 9 innings, while racking up 8 strikeouts.
Cincinnati designated hitter Matt Stairs had a nice game. In the top of the first inning with two out, he belted a 2-run home run for the Reds. It made the score 3-0, Cincinnati. For the game, Stairs was 1-4 with a home run and a walk. He drove in 2 runs and scored once.
"It's always a heck of a lot easier to get to sleep after a win," Stairs told the Cincinnati Today. "I know I'll rest easy tonight."
With the victory, the Reds record now stands at 66-58.
