The Cincinnati Reds topped the New York Yankees, 7-4, in Federal League action at Yankee Stadium. The player of the game was Cincinnati second baseman Bret Barberie. Mike Mussina was the winner. Over 8.1 innings, he allowed 4 runs on 10 hits, with no walks and 9 strikeouts. The Reds bumped their record to 67-58 with this latest triumph.

Having an impact for Cincinnati was Kevin McReynolds. In the top of the third inning, the three-time All-Star had a run-scoring sacrifice fly to make the score 2-0, Reds.
