Pilots Topple Brewers with Late Rally
|
The Seattle Pilots stopped the Milwaukee Brewers, 8-5, behind an impressive performance from Joe Oliver. The 27-year old catcher made life miserable for Milwaukee pitching. He went 2 for 4 with a home run. He scored 2 times. Seattle leads the United League West Division by 10½ games.
Seattle took a 7-5 lead on Edgar Martinez's 38th double of the season. The 2-run double, which Martinez hit in the top of the ninth, left Milwaukee pitcher Mike Hartley visibly frustrated.
"We're in a marathon, not a sprint," Martinez said in postgame remarks. "Soon enough, the finish line will be in sight."
