Multi-HR Day for Gibson as White Sox Overpower Pirates, 7-1
|
Chicago right fielder Kirk Gibson had a 5-RBI game, which helped his team beat the Pittsburgh Pirates, 7-1. Ken Hill, the winner, improved to 11-5. He held the Pirates to 1 earned run on 4 hits over 9 innings, while striking out 3 and walking 1. The 4th-place White Sox have won 5 in a row.
Gibson made an early impact for Chicago when he stroked his 23rd home run of the season. The grand slam home run, which came in the bottom of the first, put the White Sox on top, 4-0.
"If you pitch well, you give yourself some opportunities," said Chicago manager Dustin Hafler.
