Sun Rays Edge Past White Sox, 3-2
Both teams had their opportunities, but in the end, the Orlando Sun Rays got the win.

The Orlando Sun Rays did just enough to secure a 3-2 victory over the Chicago White Sox at Orlando Citrus Bowl. Nobody did more than pitcher John Smoltz, who captured player of the game honors. Rod Beck got the save, his 31st in 33 chances.

John Elway went 1-4, while adding 2 RBI for Orlando. The 32-year old right fielder had a key at-bat in the bottom of the eighth. With one out and runners on 1st and 3rd, he broke a 2-2 tie with a run-scoring ground out off Xavier Hernandez. It was his 66th RBI of the season.

"We were in it," said Chicago manager Dustin Hafler. "We just didn't score enough runs."

The Sun Rays bumped their record to 74-57 with this latest triumph.
