Multi-HR Day for Gonzalez as Cubs Overpower Reds, 4-2
|
The Chicago Cubs topped the Cincinnati Reds, 4-2, with left fielder Luis Gonzalez playing a big role. Gonzalez was 3-4 with 2 home runs, while adding 4 RBI and scoring twice for the Cubs in the win. Chicago reliever Jim Corsi was the winner. His record is now 3-0. The losing pitcher was Doug Henry. Jim Acker got the save, his 2nd in 4 chances.
Gonzalez had an important at-bat with runners on 1st and 2nd in the top of the eighth, when he hit a 3-run home run. The Cubs went on to win.
"Coulda, shoulda, woulda," said Cincinnati manager Eric Deutsch. "We had our chances and didn't cash in."
With the win, Chicago has a record of 76-56. Cincinnati falls to 69-63.
