Rangers Squelch Yankees Offense in Shutout Win
It was a fun time at Arlington Stadium, where the New York Yankees and Texas Rangers tangled.

Texas starter Pete J. Smith pitched effectively against the New York Yankees at Arlington Stadium. The right-hander led his team to a 4-0 win. Smith got the win, improving to 8-16. He allowed 6 hits and walked 5 over 8 innings. Smith allowed no earned runs.

The Rangers got a big at-bat from right fielder Phil Plantier. For the game, Plantier went 1-4 with a home run. In the bottom of the fourth, with the bases empty, he stroked a solo home run. His 28th home run of the season gave Texas a 1-0 lead.

"It takes a lot of things to win a ballgame," said Texas manager Sean Norman. "It's usually not just one thing."

Even with the win, the Rangers have a dismal 36-98 record.
