Cubs Get Past Royals 14-0 to Open DS
Chicago Cubs manager Anthony Perez knew it was a gamble to give the start to a rookie. It was a good gamble to take.

Pitching in front of a hostile crowd, 23-year-old right-hander David Weathers silenced the host Kansas City Royals at Royals Stadium today. The Cubs shut out the Royals by a final score of 14-0, to give the Cubs a 1-0 advantage in the best-of-7 Division Series.

Weathers was in the zone all game. He frustrated Kansas City hitters while giving the Cubs 6.1 innings of quality work. Weathers threw 102 pitches, allowing 1 hit and getting 4 punchouts.

"It was a tough night at the plate," said Kansas City manager Daniel Drucker.

Game 2 is set to be played tomorrow in Kansas City. The scheduled starters for the game are Eric King for the Chicago Cubs and Mark Guthrie for the the Kansas City Royals.
