Smoltz Handcuffs Cardinals, Sun Rays Seize 2-0 Advantage in DS
The Orlando Sun Rays got a strong performance from pitcher John Smoltz, who stymied the visiting St. Louis Cardinals en route to a 11-1 win in Game 2 of the Division Series today. The Cardinals could never get a bead on the right-handed Smoltz, who threw 8 innings of 5-hit ball to earn player of the game honors. The Sun Rays now hold a 2-0 in the best-of-7 series.

The Cardinals had trouble solving Smoltz, who surrendered 1 earned run on 5 hits over 8 innings.

"We're one game closer to our goal," Orlando manager Ben Tennyson said later. "It isn't any more complicated than that."

Game 3 is set to be played Friday, October 2nd, 1992 at Busch Stadium in St. Louis. The scheduled starters for the game are Kevin Appier for the Orlando Sun Rays and Joe Johnson for the the St. Louis Cardinals.
