St. Louis Wins at Home to Narrow Series Deficit to 2-1
|
The St. Louis Cardinals have closed some of the gap between themselves and the series-leading Orlando Sun Rays, winning 3-1 at Busch Stadium today. Cardinals right-hander Joe Johnson was named player of the game after he threw 7 innings of 3-hit ball. The win cuts the deficit facing the Cardinals to 2-1 in the best-of-7 Division Series.
St. Louis took the lead in the bottom of the eighth. With no one out and a runner on 1st, Mickey Hatcher stroked a run-scoring double to make it 2-1, Cardinals.
"We put some tough at-bats on some tough pitches," said St. Louis manager Adam Rabel.
Game 4 is scheduled for tomorrow at Busch Stadium. The scheduled starters for the game are Bruce Hurst for the Orlando Sun Rays and Dave Fleming for the the St. Louis Cardinals.
