Johnson Handcuffs Tigers, Pilots Seize 2-1 Advantage in DS
|
The Seattle Pilots got an exceptional performance from starter Randy Johnson, who silenced the Detroit offense en route to a 5-0 shutout win in Game 3 of the Division Series today. The Tigers could never get a bead on the left-handed Johnson, who threw 9 innings of shutout ball to earn player of the game honors. The Pilots now hold a 2-1 advantage in the best-of-7 series.
Johnson earned the win, going 9 strong innings for Seattle. The native of Walnut Creek, California allowed just no hits, while striking out 10. Detroit hitters did next to nothing against the left-hander.
"One win at a time, one game at a time. We try not to get too far ahead of ourselves," Johnson told the Seattle Citizen.
Game 4 is set to be played tomorrow. Slated to start are Alex Fernandez for Seattle and Ramon J. Martinez for Detroit.
