Kansas City designated hitter Jim Thome was the key at Orlando Citrus Bowl today, being named player of the game as he powered the Royals to victory in a critical Game 5 of the League Championship. The Royals took the 5-2 win over the Orlando Sun Rays to seize a 3-2 lead in the best-of-7 series.

Kansas City relied on the hitting of Chris Brown to pick up the win. The third baseman clubbed a 2-run home run in the top of the fourth inning to put the Royals on top, 3-1. For the game, Brown had 1 home run and 1 single in 4 at-bats.

Thome told a Kansas City Daily News reporter that he was "more than satisfied" with the win.

Game 6 is set to be played Friday, October 16th, 1992 at Royals Stadium. The scheduled starters for the game are John Smoltz for the Orlando Sun Rays and Mark Guthrie for the the Kansas City Royals.
