League Championship Game 1 Victory for Gooden and Baltimore
The Baltimore Orioles started the League Championship in style today, downing the visiting Seattle Pilots at Memorial Stadium by a score of 6-2 to stake an early 1-0 lead in the best-of-7 series. Orioles right-hander Dwight Gooden was named player of the game after he threw 9 innings of 4-hit ball.

Gooden pitched a complete game for Baltimore. The right-hander was charged with 2 runs on 4 hits. He struck out 9 during his 121-pitch performance.

"I had a good game plan," said Gooden. "I made my pitches." His manager concurred. "It was all there," Sara Cole said, "the velocity, the sharpness of his pitches."

The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Memorial Stadium. The scheduled starters for the game are Todd Van Poppel for the Seattle Pilots and Steve Avery for the the Baltimore Orioles.
