Seattle Win Evens Series at 1
|
The Seattle Pilots topped the Baltimore Orioles by the score of 7-3 and moved into a 1-1 tie in the League Championship today. The largest share of the credit went to player of the game and Seattle starter Todd Van Poppel, who threw 8 innings of 7-hit ball in the win.
Seattle used the bat of Vinny Castilla to get the win. The third baseman hammered a 3-run home run in the top of the eighth inning to put the Pilots ahead, 5-3. It was his lone hit in 5 at-bats, but it did its damage.
Orioles manager Sara Cole did not take questions after the game, telling assembled reporters that he would hold a press conference "if and when we win the World Series."
Game 3 is set to be played Monday at Kingdome in Seattle. The scheduled starters for the game are Ben McDonald for the Baltimore Orioles and Wally Whitehurst for the the Seattle Pilots.
