Baltimore Orioles second baseman Bill Spiers was the difference-maker at Kingdome today, winning player of the game honors as he led his club to victory in a pivotal Game 5 of the League Championship. The Orioles took the 4-3 win over the Seattle Pilots to seize a 3-2 lead in the best-of-7 series.

Baltimore relied on the hitting of Kenny Lofton to pick up the win. The center fielder clubbed a run-scoring single in the top of the eighth inning to put the Orioles on top, 4-3. For the game, Lofton had 1 home run and 1 single in 4 at-bats.

"We put it together today and came out with the win," Spiers said in postgame remarks. "That's the main thing."

Game 6 is set to be played Friday, October 16th, 1992. The scheduled starters for the game are Todd Van Poppel for the Seattle Pilots and Steve Avery for the the Baltimore Orioles.
