Red Sox Trip Pirates, 5-4
|
The Boston Red Sox topped the Pittsburgh Pirates by the score of 5-4, with the biggest share of the credit going to designated hitter Fred McGriff. McGriff was 2 for 3 with a home run and a double, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once for the Red Sox on the day. Todd Stottlemyre earned the win for Boston. He lasted 5 innings, allowing 2 earned runs on 6 hits, while striking out 3. With the win, he raised his record to 2-1. Tom Henke finished to wrap up his 6th save.
Momentum swung to the Red Sox in the bottom of the fourth, when McGriff, who finished 5th in the FL in runs with 115 in 1990, hit a run-scoring double. It propelled the Red Sox into the lead, 3-2.
"The vibe's good," said Boston manager Kevin Patterson. "We've got to keep it going."
The Red Sox raised their record to 10-5.
