Rangers Win at New York, 7-4
|
The Texas Rangers bested the New York Yankees by a score of 7-4, with catcher Hector Villanueva getting the main credit. On the day, Villanueva went 3 for 5 with a home run and 2 singles, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once for the Rangers. Texas starter Fernando Valenzuela was credited with the win after throwing 125 pitches over 7 innings. His record now stands at 3-2. The Rangers are off to a tough start, getting just their 8th win in 22 games.
Villanueva came through with some timely hitting for Texas. With the score 4-4 in the top of the seventh and one down, Villanueva hit a 1-2 slider for a run-scoring single. His 14th hit of the season made it 5-4, Texas.
"It was a solid team effort," said Villanueva after the game.
