Yankees Prevail, 7-5, Over Boston
|
New York played host to Boston at the friendly confines of Yankee Stadium.
Boston got a terrific game from third baseman Matt Williams. It wasn't enough, though, to prevent the team from falling to New York, 7-5. Williams was the player of the game despite being on the losing side. He was 3 for 4 with a home run and 2 singles, while scoring 2 times and driving in 2. Wes Gardner got the save, his 25th in 28 chances.
Nick Esasky had a critical at-bat with one out in the bottom of the first for New York. He came through with a 2-run single to put New York in front, 2-0.
"We'll put this win in our pocket and go after the next one," said Esasky.
The Yankees move to 58-80 with the win, while the Red Sox drop to 79-58.
