Athletics Turn Back Los Angeles, 8-6
|
Los Angeles designated hitter Greg Vaughn was sensational. He went 2-4 with a home run and a walk, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once, but it wasn't enough to rally his team to a win. Oakland beat the Dodgers, 8-6. Vaughn was named the player of the game despite the loss. Craig McMurtry got credit for the win, improving to 2-4. He allowed no runs on 2 hits in 1.1 innings. Oakland now sits in third place in the United League West Division at 70-67.
One of the stars of the game was Oakland left fielder David Green. In the top of the seventh with one out, he got a slider from Bob Patterson and hit a 2-run single. That made the score 8-6 in favor of the Athletics.
"Getting a lot of baserunners and getting some timely hits, it's a good combination," said Green.
