Cardinals Hold Off Royals, 6-5
|
Despite a great performance by Kansas City left fielder Jeff Conine, the St. Louis Cardinals defeated the Royals by the score of 6-5 at Busch Stadium. Conine went 2-5 with a home run. He drove in 4 runs and scored once. Steve Chitren was credited with the save. He has now successfully converted 31 of 34 save opportunities. The Cardinals bumped their record to 85-54 with this latest triumph.
In the bottom of the sixth, St. Louis catcher Terry Kennedy had a productive at-bat. With a runner on 2nd and one out, Kennedy stroked a run-scoring single to center. It made the score 6-0, St. Louis. For the game, he went 2-3 with 2 singles. He drove in 2 runs.
"Our guys are never satisfied," said St. Louis manager Adam Rabel.
