Giants Come Back Late, Nip Athletics
|
San Francisco Giants starter Jim Deshaies turned in a sterling performance against the Oakland Athletics, leading his team to a slim 2-1 win. Rusty Meacham got credit for the win, improving to 2-1. He allowed no runs on no hits in 0.2 innings. Randy Myers, summoned from the bullpen, notched his 7th save.
One significant plate appearance for San Francisco came with one out in the top of the ninth inning. Giants catcher Tom Lampkin hit a sacrifice fly, which helped San Francisco go on to win.
"I was a little disappointed," said Oakland manager JJ Williams. "We could've and should've scored more runs."
The Athletics drop to 13-15 and continue their inconsistent start to the 1992 season.
