Cardinals Clip White Sox in Tight Contest
|
St. Louis Cardinals starter Doug Drabek pitched effectively against the Chicago White Sox at Comiskey Park. The right-hander spearheaded his team's 3-1 win. The Cardinals bumped their record to 86-54 with this latest triumph.
The game was at a stalemate until second baseman Craig Grebeck came to bat in the top of the eighth. Facing Chicago pitcher Xavier Hernandez, he hit a 2-1 forkball for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting St. Louis on top, 2-1.
"This was a good win for us," said Grebeck. "It's one more step toward our ultimate goal."
