Pirates Clip Braves, 6-5
|
Howard Johnson had a good game, but he could not keep the Atlanta Braves from falling, 6-5, to the Pittsburgh Pirates at Three Rivers Stadium. The Atlanta first baseman was 2 for 3 with a home run and 2 walks, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 3 in the loss. Bryan Harvey notched his 24th save in 29 chances. The Pirates saw their record improve to 57-85.
In the bottom of the seventh inning with two out, Pittsburgh second baseman Lance Blankenship hit a 2-run single. It made the score 6-5, Pirates. For the day, Blankenship went 2-4 with a double, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once.
"You've got to ride the highs and the lows in baseball in order to succeed," Blankenship told the Pittsburgh Chronicle. "Right now I'm feeling good, but that don't mean squat for tomorrow."
