Orioles Score Late to Upend Blue Jays, 4-2
|
The Baltimore Orioles defeated the Toronto Blue Jays, 4-2, at SkyDome. Baltimore shortstop Alan Trammell was named player of the game for his superb performance. He was 3 for 4 with a home run and 2 singles, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once. Ben McDonald picked up the win with 7.1 innings of work. He allowed 2 earned runs on 5 hits, while walking 5 and striking out 2. On the season, he is now 14-7. Roger McDowell converted his 33rd save in 33 tries.
Trammell had a game-changing home run in the top of the eighth. On a 2-1 changeup from Chris Hammond, he banged a 3-run home run to left, giving the Orioles a 3-2 lead. It was the 21st home run of the year for Trammell.
"The effort we put into this one paid off," Trammell said.
Baltimore improves to 86-57 with the win. They lead their division by 6½ games.
