Orioles Beat Visiting Mets, 2-1
|
Baltimore beat New York on the strength of starter Hector Fajardo's fine effort. The right-hander led his team to a 2-1 win. The winning pitcher was Fajardo, now 4-3. He tossed 8 innings of 5-hit ball, while walking 2 and fanning 8. Roger McDowell notched his 34th save in 34 chances.
Kent Hrbek's at-bat in the bottom of the first was significant for the Orioles. Coming to the plate with a runner on 2nd and Baltimore leading 1-0, the first baseman reached on an error by the P, driving in 1 run.
"If we play like this, we can win a lot of games," Fajardo told the Baltimore Chronicle.
Baltimore leads the United League East Division by 7 games.
