The Cincinnati Reds topped the Orlando Sun Rays, 5-3, in Federal League action at Orlando Citrus Bowl. The player of the game was Cincinnati pitcher and Downey, California native Kevin Gross. Gross got the win, improving to 4-4. He allowed 6 hits and walked 1 over 7 innings. Gross allowed 3 earned runs. Todd Worrell converted his 12th save in 16 tries.

Cincinnati used the timely hitting of Javy Lopez to capture the win. The catcher stroked a 2-run double in the top of the first inning to put the Reds on top, 2-0. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but he made it count.
