7 Straight Wins for Cubs
|
Chicago Cubs starter Scott Chiamparino was locked-in. He led his team to a win over the Pittsburgh Pirates, 4-0. Chiamparino picked up the win for Chicago, going 7 innings. He gave up no runs on 3 hits. He now sports a record of 10-5. Frank DiPino, credited with the save, is now 4 for 6 in save opportunities.
The Pirates had been locked in a 0-0 tie with the Cubs going into the bottom of the fifth inning. That changed quickly when the 27-year old shortstop Manuel Lee came to the plate. Lee hit a run-scoring single on a 2-1 curveball from Pittsburgh hurler Cal Eldred. It was Lee's 68th hit of the year.
"Scott's tempo and rhythm were good," said Cubs manager Anthony Perez. "He was the key to us winning."
The third-place Cubs now have a 7-game winning streak.
